Auxiliary President’s Message by Patti Donnelly Seems hard to believe another year has come to a close. A big Thank You to all who helped on our projects so far, please keep up the good work! Our Americanism essays, poster, and coloring contests have concluded. We will be judging them the beginning of January and our winners will be turned in at Mid-winter Conference Jan 14-17, 2010. If anyone would like to attend the Mid-winter Conference please see Rae or me for info. On Wednesday January 6th we will be hosting some Vets from Daytona for lunch. If you would like to stop by that day to say hello, all are welcome. We will be buying lunch for our visiting guests only! Please try to be with us when we visit Ft. McCoy on Feb 5th. Our National President is visiting and there will be an Aisle of Flags for her. There is some car pooling happening so ask about that. We need to be ready to line-up by 11:30 AM, wearing our uniforms or red, white, and blue. Thanks to Dianne Preston for a lovely Christmas luncheon. I think a great time was had by all. Our Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen winners have been picked and passed on to District. District winners will be announced at a dinner in Port Orange Post 3282 on January 9th at 5:30 PM. Tickets are still available. The Auxiliary will hold another Book Sale on Saturday January 30th. At this time we would also like everyone to bring in a NEW pair of sneakers. This is for Heart & Sole a program to help low income and homeless kids get needed shoes. That same Saturday a Welcome Home party for veterans returning home or home on leave from the most recent or current conflicts, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan. If you know anyone in that situation please contact the Post. We want to say thanks to as many Vets as possible.
A few dates to keep in mind for 2010: Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring you good tidings. *************************************************** Auxiliary Treasurer’s Reportby Rae Ambach It is now a new year and we still have about 30 ladies who have not paid their 2010 dues. If you are one of them, please help us out by sending your $20 check ASAP. If you are unable to pay your dues at this time, remember that one of our responsibilities is to help our members and we will gladly help, if you give me at call. This information will be kept confidential. My phone number is 386-445-6147, my email address is ambach@bellsouth.net and my address is 12 Bird Haven Street, Palm Coast 32137. There are several exciting things coming up that need your help. We will have another book sale on January 30th on the pavilion from 10 to 2. At the same time we will have a shoe collection for underprivileged and homeless school children. We are asking that you bring a NEW pail of sneakers to the pavilion. We want this to be a really big event so pass the word on to everyone you see. Remember our rummage sale will be February 6th and you can bring your items for sale on Friday the 5th. The Chinese Auction will be April 3rd. Save your new unwanted items for that sale. Remember workers are always needed so volunteer some time to your auxiliary.
Let’s make 2010 a really great year to
help our active duty service personnel and our veterans and their
families. If everyone helps, we can make a difference in their
lives. |

Salute to Women Vets
On Wednesday, October 22nd 2008 the Ladies Auxiliary had their 15th Annual “Salute to Women Vets” here in our main hall. 19 Veteran Gals attended, six are pictured above, three Army and three Air Force, current members of the Florida National Guard, all recent returnees from Iraq or Afghanistan. The short gal in the center is Lieutenant Colonel Valerie Gonzales, Battalion Commander. Quite a change from the Commanders I remember. Lady Veterans from WWII through Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf and Iraq were all there. The oldest was 88. A WWII nurse, older but just as proud as when she was in her 20’s. 63 all total attended. Male Vets were the waiters and attendees and everyone had a great time. Thank you Lady Vets from one of the guys. |
